Tlacolula

One of Oaxaca’s biggest and oldest, the Tlacolula market is our favorites. Early Sunday morning this Zapotec town bustles with people coming in from the surrounding smaller villages to buy and sell crafts, produce, livestock, and of course, the renowned mescal, a distilled alcohol beverage made from the smoked hearts of the maguey plant. You never know what you will find at this market, which is one of the best parts of going!
